Tuinvraag: Wat zijn goede schaduwplanten voor vlinders en bijen.
Kies bij voorkeur zoveel mogelijk inheemse beplanting. Veredelde tuinplanten kunnen vaak wel als voedselplant dienen voor de gangbare vlinders, hommels of honingbijen, bij voorbeeld de vlinderstruik maar deze heeft geen waarde voor het behoud van de soort. Sommige soorten zijn geheel afhankelijk van een bepaalde groep of specifieke soort inheemse beplanting.
De bij en de klimop zijn dikke vrienden omdat ze elkaar nodig hebben. Klimop of hedera is een plant die in vele tuinen groeit, zowel in de stedelijke omgeving als in het buitengebied.
Zonder insecten is de natuurlijke kringloop als een mens zonder ledematen. In recent onderzoek is gebleken dat we al 75% minder insecten hebben dan 30 jaar geleden. Tuinarchitect Piet Oudolf gaf 7 september een rondleiding door zijn tuin in Hummelo. Deze tuinen gebruikt hij als testruimte om te zien hoe planten zich ontwikkelen en hoe planten combineren. Op uitnodiging van de Vrienden van het Maximapark zijn we vanuit Leidsche Rijn (Utrecht) met een groep liefhebbers en vakmensen uit het groen vertrokken naar Hummelo.
